The young women of Eastside presents..

‘Phenomenal Young Women’

pheno…. “That’s me”

Phenomenal Young Women creates spaces for young women in Tāmaki to connect.

Young women have told us that there is a need for more spaces in Tāmaki that will grow young women wellbeing in our community.

“We want spaces where we can connect, feel confident to try new things, and most importantly have fun!”

2018

In 2018, we held a one day event on Saturday the 7th July that was dreamed up and created alongside an incredible bunch of young women from Eastside. Our event was the perfect way to test some of our ideas to support wellbeing for young women as well as opportunities for young women to be involved in the planning and delivery, building their knowledge and leadership skills.

We trialled a whole heap of different activities that the young women wanted to explore – what ideas will work well and have the potential to be turned into ongoing community experiences…. This one day was all about young women. But what about the rest of the week, month, year? We needed to figure out what activities worked so well, that we could amplify into more action!

2019

With the help of a grant from CAYAD (Community Action on Youth and Drugs), we have set up two Young Women Only spaces in our community!

  • Glen Innes
    • One of our Phenomenal Young Woman is a student from Tāmaki College to run an afternoon session on Tuesdays in Term time. Latisha is a powerful young women who runs these sessions with her focus on empowerment for the young women that attend
    • If you’re a young woman at Tāmaki College, come along on Tuesday afternoons, straight after school.
  • Panmure
    • One of our other Phenomenal Young Women brings together a unique gathering of young women at the Panmure Community Hall. Apiseka creates a space for young women to be able to be themselves – what ever that may be.
    • If you want to connect with other young women in Panmure, come along on Thursday nights in term time, from 5pm to 7pm.

So if you identify as a female and are between the ages of 14 – 24 years, gather your friends, sisters, cousins and connect with us to have some fun!
